If you have not yet installed a VERITAS 4.0 product, see the VERITAS Storage Solutions Getting Started Guide or VERITAS Cluster File Solutions Getting Started Guide for the location of release notes and installation instructions. If you already have the 4.0 release of any VERITAS Storage Solutions or Cluster File Solutions product installed on your system, see “Installing Patches” on page 5 for the location of Maintenance Pack 2 patch installation instructions for the listed VERITAS products. Latest VERITAS Product Information Before installing any product, read the following VERITAS Technical Support TechNote for the latest information on updates, patches, and software issues regarding this release: http://support.veritas.com/docs/277314 Patch Installation Script You install patches to VERITAS packages by running the patch installation script, install_vp, from the command line. The install_vp script is at the top level of the 4.0 Maintenance Pack 2 disc. The install_vp script checks for installed VERITAS packages and installs the appropriate patches. After adding patches, the script prompts you to reboot the system. The script cannot remove patches, so you must use the patchrm command to remove individual patches. Compressed Files VERITAS compresses patches using GNU compression utilities before placing them on the distribution media. GNU utilities are open source tools licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). VERITAS provides the gunzip utility on the Maintenance Pack 2 software disc. After copying the compressed files to a temporary location on your system, use the gunzip utility to uncompress the patches, then use the tar command to extract them from the archive file. You do not need to uncompress the patches if you install them using the install_vp installation script (see “Patch Installation Script” above). VERITAS recommends using the script to install patches. See the individual Maintenance Pack 2 product release notes for specific instructions. Mounting the 4.0 Maintenance Pack 2 Software Disc To load the software from a CD-ROM drive: 1. Log in as superuser. 2. Place a VERITAS software disc into a CD-ROM drive connected to your system. 3. If Solaris volume management software is running on your system, when you insert the software disc it automatically mounts as /cdrom/cdrom0. 4. If Solaris volume management software is not available to mount the CD automatically, you must mount it manually. After inserting the CD, enter: # mount –F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s2 /cdrom where c0t6d0s2 is the default address for the CD-ROM drive. 5. Verify that the CD-ROM is mounted: # mount Installing Patches After mounting the software disc, change to the directory of the product you want to upgrade and read the product release notes for installation information. After mounting the Maintenance Pack 2 disc, type: # cd /cdrom/cdrom0 2. Stop the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator (VEA) service: # /opt/VRTS/bin/vxsvcctrl stop 3. Run the installation script to install the patches: # ./install_vp 4. Restart the VEA service: # /opt/VRTS/bin/vxsvcctrl start 5. To display the state of the VEA service, type: # /opt/VRTS/bin/vxsvcctrl status See the patch README files in the sanpoint_control_quickstart/patches directory for specific patch information. Installing Language Patches If you purchase a non-English language version of VERITAS Storage Solutions or VERITAS Cluster File Solutions 4.0 Maintenance Pack 2, the product includes an additional disc containing patches for the language packages. VERITAS 4.0 release products and language packages must be installed before updating them with Maintenance Pack 2 patches and Maintenance Pack 2 language patches. If you have not yet installed a VERITAS 4.0 language product, see the Getting Started Guide for the location of release notes and installation instructions. After you have a VERITAS language product installed on your system, install the English-language patches for the product (see “Installing Patches” on page 5). After upgrading a VERITAS product from the 4.0 to the 4.0 Maintenance Pack 2 level, mount the language patch disc and run the command-line installation script, install_vp, available at the top level of the disc (see “Patch Installation Script” on page 3). The script detects any installed VERITAS language packages and automatically installs the corresponding language patches. See the Maintenance Pack 2 product release notes for language patch installation instructions. Support Tools Diagnostic tools are available to assist in troubleshooting problems associated with these products. These tools are available on disc or can be downloaded from the VERITAS FTP site. See the README.VRTSspt file in the support directory for details.
