This TechFile provides information about the Array Support Library (ASL) for HP StorageWorks 4400/6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Array on VERITAS Volume Manager 5.0 and 5.0MPx for HP-UX 11.31 (11iv3). The following patches need to be installed before proceeding with the ASL installation: - vm-hpux1131-5.0GARP3-patches.tar http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/324034.htm - fs-hpux1131-5.0RP5-patches.tar http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/324084.htm 2. Before installing this ASL make sure to check if the earlier released ASL package, VRTSHP-EVALE, is already installed on the system or not, as follows: # swlist | grep VRTSHP-EVALE If it is installed, please remove it as follows: # swremove VRTSHP-EVALE Installation Instructions: 1. Create a directory to download the ASL package # mkdir /tmp/HPEVA_ASL # cd /tmp/HPEVA_ASL 2. At the bottom of this TechFile, click on Download Now to download the ASL package 3. After downloading VRTSHP-EVA_HPUX11.31_vm5.0_asl_v1.1.tar_326801.gz, verify the checksum of the file # cksum VRTSHP-EVA_HPUX11.31_vm5.0_asl_v1.1.tar_326801.gz 2344415738 51948 VRTSHP-EVA_HPUX11.31_vm5.0_asl_v1.1.tar_326801.gz 4. Uncompress the file and extract the ASL package # gunzip VRTSHP-EVA_HPUX11.31_vm5.0_asl_v1.1.tar_326801.gz # tar xvf VRTSHP-EVA_HPUX11.31_vm5.0_asl_v1.1.tar_326801 5. Before adding the ASL package, ensure Veritas Volume Manager is installed and enabled # vxdctl mode mode: enabled 6. Install the ASL as follows: # swinstall -s `pwd` VRTSHP-EVA 7. After the ASL is installed, you must execute the vxdctl enable command to claim the disk array # vxdctl enable Note: In some cases, it has been reported that the installation of the ASL does not take effect, and vxdctl enable does not claim the enclosure and devices. In such cases, you can execute the vxconfigd -k command in addition to vxdctl enable. 8.
