======================================================================= VRTSaslapm package (Array Support Libraries and Array Policy Modules) on Veritas Volume Manager (tm) 5.1SP1 for HPUX 11iV3 (11.31) ======================================================================= Date : 12/14/2013 Package Name : VRTSaslapm Package Description : Array Support Libraries and Array Policy Modules for Veritas Volume Manager Package Version : 5.1.103.100 Operating System : HPUX Operating System version : IA, PA Veritas Volume Manager Version : 5.1.100.000 Note: This VRTSaslapm package is ONLY for VRTSvxvm 5.1SP1 and 5.1SP1 RP/PR/HF releases. This VRTSaslapm package should NOT be used on VxVM 6.0, 6.0.1 or higher releases. ======================================================================= This archive is done to correct the package revision issue with the previous archive. The previous archive for revision 5.1.103.100 had an extra string attached at the end: "5.1.103.100%2013_12_13_unixvm/ga5_1sp1_maint_perf" This archive correctly sets the revision to: "5.1.103.100" If you already have the previous package installed then there is no need to install this package for functional reasons as the binaries are identical. If you want to install the new package on top of the old package then you need to use the option "-x allow_downdate=true". For description of changes made in this update, and other information related to VRTSaslapm package, please reference the TechNote: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77062 ======================================================================= Installation Procedure: ====================== 1. Pre-Installation Checks: --------------------------- A) Verify that you have downloaded the correct VRTSaslapm package for your system. This is the VRTSaslapm package update for Symantec customers(not for HP OEM customers). You can verify that you have the correct installation by running the command: swlist -l product -a vendor_tag VRTSvxvm | grep -v '#' if you get output of: VRTSvxvm Symantec then you have a "Symantec" installation and this is the correct VRTSaslapm package update for such installations. If the above command shows the output of: VRTSvxvm HP Then you DO NOT have a Symantec installation, you have a HP OEM installation. Please go to SORT and download the correct VRTSaslapm package, which is tagged as "OEM Release". B) If there are any external ASL/APM packages installed on the system, Remove them before you start installation of VRTSaslapm package. External ASL/APM packages from older releases, such as 5.0, are not supported with 5.1 release. The only ASL/APM package supported is VRTSaslapm. C) VxVM 5.1.100 is the minimum VxVM version that needs to be installed before proceeding with installation of VRTSaslapm package. So make sure that VxVM 5.1.100 or higher version is installed on system. 2. Package Download Instructions: ---------------------------------- A. Create a directory to store the VRTSaslapm package # mkdir /tmp/aslapm # cd /tmp/aslapm B. Download the VRTSaslapm package C. After downloading VRTSaslapm_HPUX_5.1.103.100.tar.gz in /tmp/aslapm directory, verify the cksum # cksum VRTSaslapm_HPUX_5.1.103.100.tar.gz 459442801 4449092 VRTSaslapm_HPUX_5.1.103.100.tar.gz D. Uncompress the file and extract the packages # gunzip VRTSaslapm_HPUX_5.1.103.100.tar.gz # tar -xvf VRTSaslapm_HPUX_5.1.103.100.tar 3. Installation Instructions: ---------------------------- Note: Before installing, please take note of the following: 1. If the packages AVXTOOL and AVXVM are installed on your system then they may have hard coded dependency on the GA version (5.1.100.0) of VRTSaslapm package. Due to this, the install of this updated package requires the option "-x enforce_dependencies=false" option. 2. swverify of the packages AVXTOOL and AVXVM shows errors since the hard dependency for 5.1.100.0 is not successful. For example, the swverify on AVXTOOL would result in: ... The corequisite "VRTSaslapm.VXASLAPM-KRN,r=5.1.100.000" for fileset "AVXTOOL.AVXTOOLPKG,l=/,r=B.05.10.00" cannot be successfully resolved. The corequisite "VRTSaslapm.VXASLAPM-RUN,r=5.1.100.000" for fileset "AVXTOOL.AVXTOOLPKG,l=/,r=B.05.10.00" cannot be successfully resolved. ERROR: The dependencies for fileset "AVXTOOL.AVXTOOLPKG,l=/,r=B.05.10.00" cannot be resolved (see previous lines). ... A. If VRTSaslapm package is currently NOT installed on your system then perform an initial install. 1. Install the package # swinstall -s `pwd` VRTSaslapm 2. After you install VRTSaslapm package, you must execute: # vxdctl enable B. If there is a VRTSaslapm package already installed on your system then perform an upgrade/downgrade install. Upgrade Installation Instructions: ---------------------------------- 1. Verify the version of currently installed VRTSaslapm package. Make sure that you are upgrading VRTSaslapm package with a higher version. # swlist -v VRTSaslapm | grep ^revision 2. To upgrade VRTSaslapm package to higher version, execute: # swinstall -s `pwd` VRTSaslapm 3. After you upgrade VRTSaslapm package, you must execute: # vxdctl enable Downgrade Installation Instructions: ------------------------------------ Note: If an array support was added via the currently installed version of the VRTSaslapm package then the downgrade of the package may cause t hat array to not work properly. 1. Verify the version of currently installed VRTSaslapm package. Make sure that you are downgrading VRTSaslapm package with a lower version. # swlist -v VRTSaslapm | grep ^revision 2. To downgrade VRTSaslapm package to a lower version, execute: # swinstall -x allow_downdate=true -s `pwd` VRTSaslapm 3. After you downgraded VRTSaslapm package, you must execute: # vxdctl enable 4. Post-Installation Checks: ---------------------------- A. After you install VRTSaslapm package, verify output of "vxddladm listsupport" command: # vxddladm listsupport [all] # vxddladm listsupport libname=<libname> B. Check the output of "vxdmpadm listapm" command. # vxdmpadm listapm [all | apmname] C. To configure a latest APM module the following command can be used: # vxdmpadm cfgapm <apmname> NOTE: If the upgrade installation process was not able to load the latest version of an APM module then you will need to either reboot the machine or manually load the new version. To manually load the new version, the following commands can be used: # kcmodule <apmname>=unused # kcmodule <apmname>=best # vxdmpadm cfgapm <apmname> D. To see package information, execute # swlist -v VRTSaslapm Un-installation Procedure: ========================== Note: After un-installlation of VRTSaslapm package, any arrays that require an ASL/APM may not work properly until VRTSaslapm is installed again. A. To uninstall VRTSaslapm package, execute # swremove VRTSaslapm B. After you uninstall VRTSaslapm package, you must execute # vxdctl enable
