Create a directory to store ASL package # mkdir /tmp/asl # cd /tmp/asl 2. Download the ASL package to /tmp/asl 3. After downloading VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_Linux.tar.gz, verify checksum # cksum VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_Linux.tar.gz 987611839 21911 VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_Linux.tar.gz 4. Unzip the file and extract the rpm package # gunzip VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_Linux.tar.gz # tar -xvf VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_Linux.tar 5. Before adding any ASL package, ensure Veritas Volume Manager is installed and enabled # vxdctl mode mode: enabled Note: There are 5 rpm packages in tar ball ------------------------------------------ VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_RHEL4.i686.rpm VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_RHEL5.i686.rpm VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_SLES9.i586.rpm VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_SLES10.i586.rpm VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_SLES11.x86_64.rpm Following are installation instructions on RHEL5 system (Similar instructions can be used on other distributions) 6. ASL Installation: ----------------- # rpm -ivh VRTSLeftHand-5.0-1.0_RHEL5.i686.rpm 7. After the package is installed, you must execute the "vxdctl enable" command to claim the disk array. # vxdctl enable Note: In some cases, it has been reported that the installation of the ASL does not take effect and `vxdctl enable` does not claim the the enclosure and devices. In such cases, you can execute the `vxconfigd -k` command in addition to `vxdctl enable` 8.
