You might encounter this message when an Internet Information Services (IIS) resource enters the UNKNOWN state. The corresponding service group might fail to come online.
 

This error occurs when the WMI connection to a namespace fails.

You may attempt any of the following approaches to resolve this issue:
 

  • Try using third-party tools to connect to the WMI namespace_name that was specified in the error message. Typical namespace_name values are:

    root\\MicrosoftIISv2 for Windows Server 2003

    root\\WebAdministration for Windows Server 2008 or later
     
  • Identify the description for the Windows error code that appears in the message, and attempt to work around that issue.
