Symptom
  • Status code V-16-13-4281 is reported by the Exchange Configuration Wizard.
  • ERROR: V-16-13-4281 "Failed to assign the required privileges. Refer to the log file for further details" appears in Veritas Storage Foundation HA for Windows - Database Agent for Microsoft Exchange

Additional Info
Generally this error relates to a Global Cluster Setup where a Parent/Child domain relationship exist.  It is usually seen when installing Exchange on the DR site (Child domain).  To reason for the error is that the wizard needs to update the Parent Domain and doesn't have the appropriate rights to do this.  The wizard only needs these permissions during the install and then afterwards these extra permissions can be removed.

Solution
Add the Child Domain's Domain Admin account that you are using to do the install to the Builtin Administrator group on the Parent Domain.
After you have successfully installed everything, you can then remove this addition and test failovers to ensure that nothing has changed.
