This error appears because the Exchange System Name to be removed is still listed in the running Exchange Service Group Configuration. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Open the Cluster Manager GUI
2. Highlight the Exchange2003 Service Group Name
3. Click Tools|System Manager (Figure 1)

4. Use System Manager to remove the System Name by highlighting the system to remove, and clicking the left arrowhead (Figure 2)

5. Click OK
6. Rerun the Exchange Setup Wizard to remove the Exchange Server
