If you try to build on top of a Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) volume, make sure the volume is not in the DISABLED state by checking the output of the vxprint command.

If the volume is DISABLED, bring it back to the ENABLED state. Enter:

vxrecover –s volume-name

Note: Please make sure that the corresponding dmpnode is in the ENABLED state.

This can occur when using the mkfs command to create a VxFS file system, but the file system cannot communicate with the underlying device. If you are attempting to build on top of a VxVM volume, run vxprint to confirm that the Volume is in an ONLINE state. If it in a DISABLED state, run vxrecover –s to bring it to an ONLINE state.
