In the Management Console, navigate to the edit page for the directory service. Click Test Credential or Test Connection to see if the Management Server is able to communicate with the directory server. In the event of a disconnection between the Management Server and the directory server, take steps to establish the connection. If the scanning problem persists even after the connection is established, contact Symantec Technical Support.

In case of an NIS or NIS+ directory service, perform the following steps:

  1. Check if the directory is running on the directory server. If not, run the directory.

  2. Check if NIS+ is running in the NIS-Compatibility Mode. If not, switch NIS+ in the NIS-Compatibility Mode.

If NIS+ is unable to run in NIS-Compatibility Mode, copy the user list and the group list from the NIS+ server to the following location on the Management Server: $DATADIR\users\nisplusNIS+ domain name. Rename the copied files to users.txt and groups.txt respectively, and run the scan again.
