Error creating index for <ObjectType> <Share_or_SiteCollName>

This message is displayed when the Data Insight indexer component fails to create an index environment for a share or a site collection. Release: Generic

To determine the cause of the failure:

1. Check the resource consumption on the Indexer node for the file server. The name of the Indexer node where the failure occurs appears in the Events page under the Origin column. You can also find the name on the Filers page through the Settings page under the Indexer column.

If the Indexer node does not have sufficient disk space, it may cause a failure to create index for shares.
2. Check if there are any previous errors indicating the cause of the issue. In the Windows Event Viewer on the Indexer node, expand the Data Insight event log.
3. Free up the resources. Perform the following steps in the order given:
• Open a command window.
• Change the working directory to DataInsightInstallDir\bin.
• Change the logging level for services. Enter:

configcli loglevel com.symc.matrix ALL
• Manually create an index environment by using the following idxwriter command line.

For a version earlier than Data Insight 2.5:

Idxwriter –m indexdir

(Replace indexdir with a path on the drive on which index creation is failing.)

For Data Insight 2.5 or later:

Idxwriter –m indexdir --namespace cifs | sharepoint

Then check if the index environment is created successfully at the specified location.
• After the creation, try running the IndexWriterJob to create an index for the share collection or site collection that is specified in the error message.

If the index creation fails again, the cause for the failure may be indicated in the commd0.0.log file. The commd0.0.log file is in the DataInsightInstallDir\log folder.

If index creation for a specific share or multiple shares continues to fail, contact Veritas Technical Support.
