Error Code details
V-5-1-2031
Severity: Error
Component: Volume Manager
Message:
Cannot kill existing daemon, pid=%ld
Description:

The configuration daemon process vxconfigd opens the /dev/vx/config device. Only one process can open this device at any time. If the vxconfigd daemon is already running, the -k option causes a SIGKILL signal to be sent to that process. If the old configuration daemon is still running after a certain period, the above error message displays.

This error may result from a kernel error that causes the configuration daemon process to be unable to be terminated. It may come from other kinds of kernel errors, or from another user who has started a different instance of the vxconfigd daemon process after the SIGKILL signal. You can test this last condition by running vxconfigd -k again. If the error message appears again, contact Veritas Technical Support.
