Description:

An error occurred while initializing the specified disk device.

When you initialize a disk (using vxdisk init) and a failure occurs for a reason that is not specific to VxVM, this error message appears. In the message, the information after “init failed” indicates the reason for the failure.

When a failure occurs for a reason that is specific to VxVM, a more specific VxVM error message appears instead.

Look in the syslog or other log files to find related messages for the device specified in the error message. Use this information to help identify and resolve the issue. If there was a write error to sda, for example, there may be other messages indicating the reason for the error.
