Error Code details
Severity: n/a
Component: Volume Manager
Volume %s is in snapshot chain

The unprepare operation removes the Data Change Object (DCO) object attached to volume. The DCO volume tracks changes between snapshot volumes. The error above is displayed when the volume is either the source volume or a snapshot volume in a snapshot hierarchy. Unpreparing the volume is not permitted because it invalidates the snapshot relationship.

To unprepare a snapshot volume that is in a snapshot hierarchy, bring it out of the snapshot relationship:

vxsnap -g dg dis snapvol

Note: If you dissociate an incomplete snapshot, you cannot use the volume. All I/Os on that volume fail until you use the unprepare operation to detach the DCO object.

To unprepare a source volume in a snapshot hierarchy, use the vxsnap command to dissociate all its snapshot volumes, then unprepare them.
