you execute the vxdiskconfig command while vxconfigd is not in the enabled mode.
you execute the vxdiskconfig command with language localization. The vxdiskconfig script runs the command vxdctl mode and checks its output. The output is in default set language, which might be Japanese and simple Chinese as Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) on Solaris supports. Then vxdiskconfig fails to recognize the output and assumes that vxconfigd is not in ENABLED state.
you execute the vxdiskadm command and choose menu option 21 (Get the newly connected/zoned disks in VxVM view). After you choose the option, the system invokes the vxdiskconfig command, and gets either of the above two scenarios.
The solution applies to scenario 2 and 3, which happen only on all supported Solaris platforms. And scenario 2 happens only in releases prior to VxVM 6.0.1.
To solve the problem:
Switch the language to English. Enter:
# export LANG=C
Try vxdiskconfig or vxdikadm again.
