VxVM vxdisksetup ERROR V-5-2-1814 <disk name> : Invalid disk device for 'cdsdisk' format
Description:

VxVM supports cross-platform data sharing (CDS) on SCSI disks that can report SCSI geometry information. This message displays when you try to initialize a disk with the CDS disk format (cdsdisk) but the disk does not report SCSI geometry information. It also displays when you first add a disk but you have not rebooted the system.

Do one of the following:

 

  • Initialize the disk using a non-CDS disk format, such as simple or sliced.

 

  • If you need to initialize the disk with the cdsdisk format, select a disk that can report SCSI geometry information.

 

  • To see the disks that can report SCSI geometry information, enter:

 

        /usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxscsi –g disk_name

 

  • If you have just added the disk and you have not rebooted the system, run vxdctl enable to ensure that vxconfigd rescans the disk.
