VxVM vxdisksetup ERROR V-5-2-1814 <disk name> : Invalid disk device for 'cdsdisk' format

VxVM supports cross-platform data sharing (CDS) on SCSI disks that can report SCSI geometry information. This message displays when you try to initialize a disk with the CDS disk format (cdsdisk) but the disk does not report SCSI geometry information. It also displays when you first add a disk but you have not rebooted the system.

Do one of the following:

  • Initialize the disk using a non-CDS disk format, such as simple or sliced.

  • If you need to initialize the disk with the cdsdisk format, select a disk that can report SCSI geometry information.

  • To see the disks that can report SCSI geometry information, enter:

        /usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxscsi –g disk_name

  • If you have just added the disk and you have not rebooted the system, run vxdctl enable to ensure that vxconfigd rescans the disk.

For detailed information about the CDS disk format, see the CDS disk access section in the Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions Guide.
