The message is displayed when submitted input and output (I/O) take more time to complete than expected. It may happen when the disk device I/O throughput is very slow, or when the connection is bad.

To solve the problem, do either of the following:

 

  • Check the disk response time by comparing the I/O response time of the problematic and the normal devices by running the dd command. For example: 

 

               time dd if=/dev/disknode of=/dev/null count=10000

 

If the disk responds slowly, relocate the data to a different device.

 

  • Check if there is any issue with storage connectivity. If you can find issue(s) with one particular  device, probably there’s hardware problem with the device. You need to contact the array vendor to see whether it can be fixed at the array level. If it can’t be fixed, relocate the data to a different disk device.
