Error Code details
V-72-12-202
Severity: Error
Component: Product Installer for Windows
Message:
Error message 1: (During installation) MPIO: To avoid potential data corruption and reduce installation time, you must reduce the number of paths to each array to one before you begin the installation. After the installation completes, reconnect additional physical paths before rebooting the system. Error message 2: (During installation) MPIO: On Windows Server 2008, the Microsoft Multipath input/output (Microsoft MPIO) feature must be enabled before installing DMP Device Specific Modules (DSMs). Error message 3: (During installation of Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows) Microsoft Failover cluster: When installing Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows (Server Components) with the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) option, you may want to adjust the minimum and maximum time for quorum arbitration to ensure optimal functioning of Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows dynamic volumes with MSCS. For more information, see the Veritas Storage Foundation Administrator's Guide. Error message 4: (During uninstallation) MPIO: The time to uninstall the Veritas Dynamic Multi-pathing MPIO feature depends on the number of physical paths connected during the uninstallation. To reduce uninstallation time for this feature, Veritas recommends only one physical path connection during uninstallation. After the uninstallation completes, reconnect additional physical paths before rebooting the system.
Description:

These errors can occur when you install or uninstall the server components of Veritas Storage Foundation HA for Windows (SFW HA), Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW), and Veritas Dynamic Multi-Pathing for Windows (DMPW).

Error message 1

This error occurs if you are use multiple paths and select a specific device specific module (DSM). The installation time required depends on the number of paths that are connected to the DSM. Therefore, multiple paths require more time to install.

Error message 2

If you are use multiple paths and select a specific DSM on a Windows Server 2008 computer, you receive an additional message which states that Microsoft MPIO feature must be enabled before you install DMP DSMs. DMP DSMs are designed to support a multi-path disk storage environment set up with the Microsoft Multipath I/O (Microsoft MPIO) solution. DMP DSMs work effectively with Windows to provide a fault tolerant multi-path disk storage environment.

Error message 3

When you install Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows (Server Components) and select the MSCS option, you receive a message which states that you may want to adjust the maximum time and minimum time for quorum arbitration to ensure optimal functioning of SFW dynamic volumes with MSCS. The quorum arbitration minimum time and maximum time settings set the limits of the time period that is allowed for quorum arbitration. Quorum arbitration is the process that occurs when the controlling node of the cluster is no longer active and other nodes of the cluster try to gain control of the quorum resource and therefore control of the cluster.

Error message 4

This error occurs if you use multiple paths and select a specific DSM. The uninstallation time required is dependent on the number of paths connected to the DSM. Therefore, multiple paths require more time to uninstall.

Error message 1

To reduce installation time for this feature, Veritas recommends only one physical path connection during installation. After the installation completes, reconnect additional physical paths before you restart the system.

Error message 2

For Windows Server 2008 systems, enable the Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature using the Server Manager to view the multi-path under SFW or SFW HA. The MPIO server feature must be enabled before installing DMP DSMs in Windows Server 2008 systems.

Error message 3

The optimal quorum arbitration time settings for a dynamic quorum are:

  • Minimum time - 30 seconds

  • Maximum time - 120 seconds

To specify these settings, type the following commands in the command line:

cluster.exe /prop QuorumArbitrationTimeMin=30

cluster.exe /prop QuorumArbitrationTimeMax=120

If you do not plan to use a dynamic quorum and instead want to retain the quorum resource on a basic disk, you may want to specify the default settings that Windows Server 2008 use for the basic quorum.

The Windows Server 2008 quorum arbitration time settings are:

  • Minimum time - 7 seconds

  • Maximum time - 60 seconds

To reset the settings, type the following commands in the command line:

cluster.exe /prop QuorumArbitrationTimeMin=7

cluster.exe /prop QuorumArbitrationTimeMax=60

The advantage of changing the settings back is that it speeds up the quorum arbitration process. For more details, refer to the Veritas Storage Foundation Administrator's Guide.

Error message 4

To reduce the uninstallation time for this feature, Veritas recommends only one physical path connection during uninstallation. After the uninstallation completes, reconnect additional physical paths before you restart the system.
