Overview of the hotfix
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This HF will apply on Linux MH only. It can be deployed from Solaris MS or Windows MS, both.

Installing the hotfix
=====================================================================================================================

I. Deploy HotFix from the Management Server
II. Configure StorageExplorer to not issue SCSI inquiry to tape devices

I. Deploy HotFix from the Management Server:
---------------------------------------

- Deploying HF from Windows Management Server:
  --------------------------------------------

(The following assumes that CommandCentral has been installed on 32-bit host in default installation directory)

1. Download the hotfix ("ccs-F511001987089.tar.gz") to a temporary location 
   (for example, C:\Temp\).

2. Extract the hotfix in the temporary directory.

   When you extract the hotfix, the following contents should be there:

   patches directory and README

3. To push the hotfix to Managed Hosts from the Management Server, do the following on the Management Server:

   - Open an operating system console.

   - Type the following command to change to the HAL bin directory:
     cd C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin

   - Type the following command:

     halsecurity login 
     You may have to provide the password for the admin account which is used while logging 
     into the Console. The default password for this account is 'password' (without single quotes).
  - To get list of all Managed hosts in a text file, run below command -	
     perl CHMGetManagedHosts.pl -f C:\Temp\mhs.txt

     Note: C:\Temp\mhs.txt obtained by running above command will have list of all MHs.
           Edit this file, to keep name of only those MHs where HF has to be deployed.

  - To deploy the hotfix on all hosts listed in C:\temp\mhs.txt, run below command -
     perl PushUpgrade.pl -u C:\Temp\patches\VRTSccs-F511001987089.tar.gz -H C:\Temp\mhs.txt


4. After you deploy the hotfix, you can check the installation logs on relevant Managed Hosts as follows:

   - To see the detailed logs, go to CommandCentral Storage Data directory.
     The default location is:
     C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage Data\Data\HAL\maint

     cd <HAL data directory>\Data\HAL\maint\VRTSccs-F511001987089\<time stamp>\output
     For example:

     C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage
	 Data\Data\HAL\maint\VRTSccs-F511001987089\<time stamp>\output

   - Check if there are any errors in the stderr.txt file.
   - Check the detailed logs of hotfix application in the stdout.txt file.


5. Verify the hotfix version on relevant Managed Hosts as follows:
   - Open the CommandCentral Storage version file.
     The default location is C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Version\cc_version.txt

   - Check the FIXID and other details which shows the HOTFIX number added with all the details in cc_version.txt
    For example:
    FIXID=F511001987089
    DATE=Wed Apritl 08 18:37:03 2010
    DESCRIPTION=StorageExplorer HotFix 
    REQUIRES=None


- Deploying HF from Solaris Management Server:
  --------------------------------------------

1. Download the hotfix ("ccs-F511001987089.tar.gz") to a temporary location
   (for example, /tmp).

2. Extract the hotfix into the temporary directory.

   When you extract the hotfix, the following contents should be there:

   patches directory and README

3. To push the hotfix to Managed Hosts from the Management Server, do the following on the Management Server:

   - Open an operating system console.

   - Type the following command to change to the HAL bin directory:

     cd /opt/VRTSccs/VRTShal/bin

   - Type the following command:

     ./halsecurity login 
     You may have to provide password for admin account which is used while logging 
     in to the Console. The default password for this account is 'password' (without single quotes).
   - To get list of all Managed hosts attached to MS, run below command.	
      ./perl CHMGetManagedHosts.pl -f /tmp/mhs.txt

      Note: /tmp/mhs.txt obtained by running above command will have list of all MHs.
	  Edit this file, to keep name of only those MHs where HF has to be deployed.

   - To deploy the hotfix on all hosts listed in /tmp/mhs.txt, run below command.
      ./perl PushUpgrade.pl -u /tmp/patches/VRTSccs-F511001987089.tar.gz -H /tmp/mhs.txt

4. After you deploy the hotfix, you can check the installation logs on relevant Managed Hosts as follows:

   - To see the detailed logs, go to CommandCentral Storage Data directory.
     The default location is
	 /var/VRTSccs/data/VRTShal/maint/VRTSccs-F511001987089/<time stamp>/output
     cd <HAL data directory>/data/VRTShal/maint/VRTSccs-F511001987089/<time stamp>/output
     For example:

     cd /var/VRTSccs/data/VRTShal/maint/VRTSccs-F511001987089/<time stamp>/output

   - Check if there are any errors in the "stderr.txt" file.
   - Check the detailed logs of hotfix application in the "stdout.txt" file.


5. Verify the hotfix version on relevant Managed Hosts as follows:

   - Open the CommandCentral Storage version file.
     The default location is: /opt/VRTS/version/cc_version.txt
   - Check the FIXID which shows the HOTFIX number and other details.
     For example:

        FIXID=F511001987089
        DATE=Wed April 08 18:37:03 2010
        DESCRIPTION=StorageExplorer HotFix
        REQUIRES=F511001987089


II. Configure StorageExplorer to not issue SCSI inquiry to tape devices:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Log into the CCS GUI console, navigate to Setting >> Managed Hosts

2. On the Managed Hosts page, Click on the managed host name that you want to disble the SCSI inquiry to tape devices
   and then click on the StorageExplorer.

3. In the Explorer page, click on the Registry tab.  
   In the Registry Settings, Click on the checkbox of the 'Disable_scsi_tape_inquiry' and   
   then click on the Go button for Edit Registry Entry.

4. Set the value to 1 for Disable_scsi_tape_inquiry. Click on OK and then click on Yes 	   
   to view the status of this task.  

Repeat the same steps (1 to 4) above for the rest of managed hosts that you want to disable the SCSI inquiry to tape devices.
