DESCRIPTION: The installation of guest components on Linux hosts fails due to an error in the registration of the embedded evaluation license key. RESOLUTION: Symantec has issued a patch that you can install on the ApplicationHA Console host. The patch installs a modified evaluation license key to work around the registration issue. * 2845342 (Tracking ID: 3158297) SYMPTOM: If you launch the ApplicationHA 6.0 guest component installation wizard from the vSphere Client, the wizard may fail to install the guest components on some Linux guests. DESCRIPTION: This behavior occurs due to the absence of the /etc/issue file. When you launch the guest component installation wizard, the wizard runs a pre-installation check for compatibility with the existing Linux distribution on the guest. If the wizard is unable to locate the /etc/issue file, the pre-installation check fails. RESOLUTION: Symantec has issued a patch that you can apply to the ApplicationHA Console host. The patch installs modified versions of certain installation scripts to work around the issue. * 3119956 (Tracking ID: 3158311) SYMPTOM: If you try to install ApplicationHA 6.0 guest components on Linux guests by using the vSphere Client GUI, the guest component installation wizard may fail without a warning. However, the wizard logs an insufficient disk space error. DESCRIPTION: This behavior occurs due to an error in the pre-installation check for available disk space. When you launch the guest component installation wizard from the vSphere Client, the wizard performs certain pre-installation checks on the guest. In some cases, even if the disk space is insufficient, the pre-installation check is successful. The wizard proceeds with guest component installation, but later fails due to insufficient disk space. RESOLUTION: Symantec has issued a patch that you can install on the ApplicationHA Console host. The patch installs modified versions of certain installation scripts to work around the issue. * 3125045 (Tracking ID: 3158305) SYMPTOM: If your Linux guests are running certain versions of VMware Tools, you may be unable to install ApplicationHA 6.0 on Linux guests by using the vSphere Client. DESCRIPTION: This issue was reported for VMware Tools 9.0.0.15210 build 782409 and later, but other versions may also be affected. This issue occurs because of a variation in the location of the VMware Tools startup script, depending on the version of VMware Tools on the guest. When you launch the ApplicationHA guest component installation wizard from the vSphere Client GUI, the wizard performs a pre-installation check for the presence of the VMware Tools startup script on the guest virtual machine. As the location of the startup script has changed, the pre-installation check fails. RESOLUTION: Symantec has issued a patch that you can apply to the ApplicationHA Console host. The patch installs modified versions of certain installation scripts to work around the issue. INSTALLING THE PATCH -------------------- Download the patch zip file to a temporary location on Console host. The zip file contains the following files under "scripts" directory: scripts/ ApplicationHA60_patch.bat patch.pl PreInstallVerify get_os.sh GuestInstaller 1. Extract the patch files from the zip file. 2. From the command prompt, navigate to "scripts" directory where you extracted the patch files. 3. Run the ApplicationHA60_patch.bat script. When you run the script, the output reports the success of the patch application for each supported guest operating system. REMOVING THE PATCH ------------------ None SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS -------------------- Note: 1. You can safely run the patch script multiple times on the ApplicationHA Console host. 2. Every time you use the CopyInstaller.bat file to copy the installer program for a Linux operating system to the ApplicationHA Console host, you must thereafter re-apply the patch on the ApplicationHA Console host. 3. This patch supercedes earlier p-patch released on 2012-09-04. 4. This patch can be installed on ApplicationHA 6.0 Console or Symantec HA 6.0.1 Console. OTHERS ------ NONE |
