The Start Replication task enables you to start replication to a specific Secondary in an RDS. Review the three types of attach options to determine the one suitable for your VVR configuration.
Note
The example in this section shows how to start replication using the autosync attach option.
Use the Autosync attach option when the data volumes contain valid data and the application is either active or inactive. The Autosync attach option copies the data on the Primary to the Secondary over the network using the DCM mechanism. This DCM mechanism requires that each data volume in the Primary RVG have a DCM associated with it.
The Checkpoint attach option is useful for low bandwidth networks or very large data sets. If you do not want to use the network to transfer the data, use checkpoint attach to backup the data on the Primary, and restore it on the Secondary. Use this option to synchronize the Secondary when the data volumes contain valid data and the application is either active or inactive.
Use the Force attach option to start replication only when the Primary and Secondary data volumes have identical data and the application is inactive.
Caution
Use Force attach with care. As mentioned, use this option only when the Primary and Secondary data volumes have identical data and the application is inactive.
For details, see Starting replication when the data volumes are zero initialized.
