Disk device naming in VxVM

Disk devices are named as follows:

• Devices in the OTHER_DISKS category (disks that are not multipathed by DMP) have names of the form hdisk#, which are the same as the device names generated by AIX.
• Devices in the remaining categories have names of the form enclosure_name_# where enclosure_name is the name of the enclosure to which the device belongs. For example, disks in enclosure XYZ are named XYZ_0, XYZ_1 and so on. The device names are automatically renamed if the name of the enclosure is changed.
• Devices with very long device names (for example, Fibre Channel devices that include worldwide name (WWN) identifiers) are always represented by enclosure-based names.

To display the native AIX device name of a VM disk (such as mydg01), use the following command:

# vxdisk list diskname
