State definitions

online 

AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris: For the local file system, indicates that the block device is mounted on the specified mount point. 

For an NFS client, indicates that the NFS remote client is mounted on the specified mount directory. 

Linux: Indicates that the file system is properly mounted on the given mount point. 

offline 

AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris: For the local file system, indicates that the block device is not mounted on the specified mount point. 

For an NFS client, indicates that the NFS remote client is not mounted on the specified mount directory. 

Linux: Indicates that the file system is not mounted properly on the mount point. 

faulted 

AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris: For the local file system, indicates that the block device has unexpectedly unmounted. 

For the NFS client, indicates that the NFS remote client has unexpectedly unmounted. 

Linux: Indicates that the file system unexpectedly unmounted. 

unknown 

Indicates that a problem exists either with the configuration or the ability to determine the status of the resource.
