FastResync

FastResync (FR) provides enhancements to Storage Foundation.

These include the following:

FR increases the efficiency of the Storage Foundation snapshot mechanism and improves the performance of operations, such as backup and decision support. These operations are organized methods of collecting data and are designed to facilitate decision making). Typically, these operations require that a volume is quiescent and that they are not impeded by updates to the volume by other activities in the system. FR reduces the amount of time that a volume must be out of service during such operations.

You can enable or disable FR on a per-volume basis. When you enable FR for a volume, a Disk Change Object (DCO) volume is created to track the regions on a volume that are changed while a mirror is detached.

Note:

Only a limited subset of operations is permitted on a DCO volume. You can perform a subdisk move, or add and remove a mirror.

FR is automatically enabled for a volume when prepare the volume for snapshot operation is performed on the volume.

The volume can be prepared through the command line interface vxassist prepare command or through the VEA GUI Prepare command.

Note:

The Prepare command replaces the Snap Start command in the VEA GUI.

Both prepare and start keywords are available in the CLI, however prepare is the recommended keyword.
