About SmartIO caching support

The following table lists the SmartIO conditions that SmartIO supports and the ones that it does not support:

Table: Conditions SmartIO supports and does not support

Supports

Does not support

All the existing volumes which are cache-enabled and are not linked to any specific cache area

RAID-5 and log volumes (such as DCO, SRL, and DCM)

All the new volumes that are created on the primary node

File pinning or block pinning

Volumes that fail over from primary node to secondary node in a cluster environment

Reserving a cache area for a particular volume

Volumes of upgraded disk group when disk group version is upgraded to 7.3

More than 8 cache areas per system

Note:

In case of VMware environment with vMotion, only one cache area is supported per system.

Any SSD device that VxVM supports (must be initialized for use with VxVM)

Cache area that is created on shared SSD

Disk group version 171 or above (for volumes to be cached)

High availability of a cache area

Volumes that are created on secondary or clustered disk group and fast-Failover enabled disk group on active node

Multiple cache areas on single SSD

Online shared volumes in clustered disk group, snapshot volumes, and Volume Replicator volumes on primary site

Persistent cache data (cache data available even after a system power cycle)

Caching after vMotion
