Creating tier definitions for LUNs

Apart from providing deeper insight on your enclosures, the Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping also lets you define the tiers for the LUNs in your datacenter. The tiering of LUNs supports the Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) which manages the data by putting them into different types of storage media according to various parameters. Apart from moving data across different storage devices, Veritas Operations Manager uses LUN tiering for provisioning the storage.

Veritas Operations Manager lets you define the tiers for the LUNs based one or more of the following parameters:

When you define tiers for the LUNs based on these parameters, Veritas Operations Manager stores these definitions as rules in the Management Server. Veritas Operations Manager changes the tier definitions automatically when these parameters change.

In certain circumstances, multiple tier definitions can be applicable to a LUN. In such cases, Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping looks for the highest order of the tier and assigns it to the LUN.

To define the tiers for a LUN, you must have the domain administrator privilege.
