Adding the managed hosts to Management Server using the Web Console

You can add a new managed host to Management Server using agent or agentless discovery.

To add a new managed host to Management Server, you can use the Add Host(s) option under Settings > Host Management of Veritas Operations Manager console.

Note:

Veritas Operations Manager does not support adding a managed agent host to Management Server if the version of the managed agent host is later than the version of Management Server. However, Veritas Operations Manager does not display any error messages when you perform this task.

You can add multiple hosts to Management Server. After you click Submit, you can view the operations that are finished, and the operations that are in progress on the subsequent page of the Add Host(s) wizard.

You can view the details of the new-added host in the Managed Hosts table.

Before you add a managed agent host to the Management Server, make sure that the managed agent host can communicate with the Management Server.

To add a managed host to the Management Server using an agent

  1. In the Veritas Operations Manager console, navigate to Settings > Host Management.
  2. Click Actions > Add Host(s).
  3. In the Add Host(s) wizard panel, select the Agent option to add the host(s) to the Management Server.
  4. Enter the host details and click Next >.

    See Add host options.

  5. In the Results panel, verify that the host has been added successfully. Click OK.

To add an agentless managed host to the Management Server

  1. In the Veritas Operations Manager console, navigate to Settings > Host Management
  2. Click Actions > Add Host(s).
  3. In the Add Host(s) wizard panel, select the Agentless option to add the host(s) to the Management Server.
  4. Select the Discovery Mode to display available UNIX or Windows Control Hosts. Select the Control Host through which you will discover the agentless host(s).

The discovery mode should be SSH for adding UNIX agentless hosts and WMI for adding Windows agentless hosts. You cannot add both UNIX and Windows hosts at the same time. If you want to add multiple hosts, you must add the UNIX hosts and the Windows hosts separately.

  5. Enter the host details and click Next >.

    See Add host options.

  6. In the Results panel, verify that the host has been added successfully. Click OK

You can convert an agentless host to an agent host using the Add Host(s) wizard. To convert the agentless host, you must install theVeritas Operations Manager agent on the host and add the host using the Agent option in the Add Host(s) wizard. You do not need to remove the host.

The Advanced option lets you use privilege control software with the agentless discovery of a host. You must specify the type and location of the software on the remote host. The Advanced option is optional and is required when adding agentless host discovery for non-root users.
