Performing the Oracle9i preinstallation tasks

The Oracle installation requires some preparation such as creating the Oracle user and group ID, and creating disk groups, volumes, and mount points. You can choose to perform all preinstallation tasks or only specific tasks using the SF Oracle RAC configuration program. Note that you must manually perform some of the preinstallation tasks.

See Sample output for Oracle9i RAC installation

To perform the Oracle9i preinstallation tasks

  1. Launch the SF Oracle RAC configuration program:

    # installsfrac -configure

  2. Enter the system names.
  3. From the configuration program menu, select Prepare to install Oracle.
  4. Select the preinstallation task from the configuration menu.

Do not select Configure private IP addresses for CRS. This option is applicable only for Oracle 10g.

  5. If you select Perform all the following tasks, the configuration program takes you through the other menu options:
  6. If you select Create userid and groupid for Oracle, provide the required information.

The configuration program assigns the same values on all nodes. The text within parentheses is the default, which you may select by pressing Enter.

Enter Oracle UNIX user name: (oracle)

Enter Oracle UNIX user id: 100

Enter Oracle UNIX user home dir: /home/oracle

Enter Oracle UNIX group name: (oinstall) dba

Enter Oracle UNIX group id: 1000

User oracle does not exist on any node. Do you want to create it with the information provided [y,n,q] (y)

Refer to the Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation and Configuration Guide for information on creating the dba group and oracle user.

  7. Review as the configuration program verifies the ssh or remsh permission for Oracle user on all the nodes.

Oracle installation requires ssh or remsh permission to be set for the Oracle user.

  8. If the ssh or remsh verification fails on any nodes, enable ssh or remsh access in those nodes.
  9. If you select Create disk groups, volumes, and file systems for Oracle, review the displayed guidelines and proceed to step 10.
  10. Before you install the Oracle9i binaries, you must create storage space for the SRVM component and the Oracle9i database. Create storage space for:

    The SRVM configuration file

See Preparing to configure the Oracle Server Management (SRVM) component

The Oracle binary and data files

See Preparing storage for Oracle binary and data files

  11. Proceed to set the Oracle environment variables and invoke the Oracle9i installer.
