Creating virtual business services

You can create a virtual business service in the Management Server console.

To perform this task, your user group must be assigned the Admin role on the cluster or the Availability perspective. The permission on the cluster may be explicitly assigned or inherited from a parent Organization or cluster.

Virtual Business Services allow Microsoft Failover Clustering groups to be added to a virtual business service. You can also start and stop the Microsoft Failover Clustering clusters by invoking the virtual business service command line interface.

To create a virtual business service

  1. In the Management Server console, go to the Availability perspective and expand Manage in the left pane.
  2. Select Data Center in the navigation tree.
  3. Select the Virtual Business Services node.
  4. Right-click on the Virtual Business Services tab and select Create.
  5. In the Create Virtual Business Service wizard panel, enter the name and description of the virtual business service. Select the service group from the Available column, and drag and drop it under the Selected column. You can select multiple service groups from different clusters.

Along with VCS service groups, you may also see Microsoft Failover Clustering roles (resource groups) in the list of service groups and you can select them as a part of the virtual business service.

See Create Virtual Business Service panel options.

  6. Click Finish.

See Editing virtual business services.

See Deleting virtual business services.
