Oracle9i preinstallation tasks involve:
Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle
. ............................................................... .
This step helps you complete sysadmin tasks before installing Oracle software.
. ............................................................... .
1) [Perform all the following tasks]
2) Create userid and groupid for Oracle
3) Configure private IP addresses for CRS (Oracle 10g only)
4) Create disk groups, volumes and file systems for Oracle ** INSTRUCTIONS ONLY **
This menu option also takes you through other tasks:
Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle > Create userid and groupid for Oracle
. ............................................................... .
This step creates user and group ids on all cluster nodes for Oracle.
. ............................................................... .
Enter Oracle UNIX user name: [b] (oracle) oracle
Enter Oracle UNIX user id (numerical): [b] 100
Enter Oracle UNIX user home dir: [b] /home/oracle
Enter Oracle UNIX group name: [b] (oinstall) dba
Enter Oracle UNIX group id (numerical): [b] 1000
User oracle does not exist on any node. Do you want to create it with the information provided [y,n,q] (y) y
Creating user oracle on galaxy .......................... Done
Creating user oracle on nebula .......................... Done
Create secondary groups for Oracle user (optional)
Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle > Create secondary groups for Oracle user
. ............................................................... .
This step creates secondary group ids on all cluster nodes. Oracle requires some other special groups for identifying
operating system accounts that have database admin (SYSDBA) privileges and for those accounts that have limited sets of
database admin (SYSOPER) privileges. You should create such groups on all systems and Oracle user should be part of these

Do you want to create another secondary group for Oracle user? [y,n,q] (y) n
Verify communication for Oracle user
Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle > SSH and RSH verification for Oracle user
. ............................................................... .
This step verifies ssh and rsh permissions for oracle user on all the nodes. Oracle installation requires ssh and rsh
permissions to be set for Oracle user.
If ssh and rsh permissions have not been set for oracle user by this time, then you can set them by switching to another
console. After setting the permissions you can come back to this console and continue with the installer.
Please NOTE! During SSH verification, if you are prompted for entering password for some node(s), then it means SSH is not
configured properly for Oracle user on those nodes, in which case you need to configure it on those nodes.

Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle > Configure private IP addresses for CRS
. ............................................................... .
This step will configure private IP addresses using PrivNIC resource of VCS.
* You must use all LLT links for PrivNIC.
* Network 1 of all nodes must be physically connected.
Similarly Networks 2, 3, and so on
* IP addresses used here must be manually added to /etc/hosts on all nodes
This step is NOT required if you will only install Oracle 9i.

Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0
Main Menu > Prepare to install Oracle > Create disk groups, volumes and file systems for Oracle ** INSTRUCTIONS ONLY **
. ............................................................... .
Before continuing, login to all cluster nodes and complete the following.
1. Create CVM volumes or CFS directories on shared storage for:
* OCR and Vote-device (for 10gR1 and 10gR2 only)
(must be on CVM volume for 10.2 and 10.1.0.5 and above)
2. Create local or shared file systems for CRS Home and Oracle Home.
3. Change the permission of all of the above to oracle user and group.
4. Create VCS resources for CVM Volumes and CFS files. Refer to sample configurations in /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/sample_rac/ directory.
Example for Oracle data disk group, volume and mount creation:
vxdg -s init oradatadg HDS0_30 IBM0_30 EMC0_30 HDS1_30 #to create shared disk group
vxassist -g oradatadg make oradatavol 6G layout=striped-mirror #to create volume
mkdir /oradata #to create a mount point
/dev/vx/rdsk/oradatadg/oradatavol #to create shared file system
mount -F vxfs -o cluster,largefiles /dev/vx/dsk/oradatadg\
/oradatavol/oradata #to mount shared file system
chown -R oracle:oinstall /oradata #to change permissions
