Taking instant snapshot of data volumes of an RVG
This task creates an instant snapshot volume for each data volume in an RVG.
Note
A snapshot plex must be available for this task to succeed.

A volume can have more than one snapshot volume.

This task is not distributed, that is, it will only be executed on the current host.

There are three types of instant snapshots: instant full snapshots, instant plex-breakoff snapshots, and instant space-optimized.
Accessing the instant snapshot menu
To access Instant Snapshots

Choose Replication Tasks > Take Instant Snapshot Data Volumes of RVG.
The following screen displays:

Select the type of snapshot you want to take, and then refer to the appropriate section:
Taking an instant full snapshot
To create instant full snapshots, perform the following tasks, as described in the respective section:
To take an instant full snapshot

Choose Replication Tasks > Take Instant Snapshot Data Volumes of RVG > Instant Full Snapshots.

Select the RVG from the list.
The following screen displays:

Optionally, enter a prefix in the Prefix entry field. This prefix enables you to easily identify the snapshot name. If you do not specify a prefix, provides a default in the format
SNAP#-<
volume name>
.
You can also enter an optional comment.

To initiate the task, press enter.
The command status screen displays.

Press F3 until you return to the main menu.
Taking an instant space-optimized snapshot
To create instant space-optimized snapshots, perform the following tasks, as described in the respective section:
To take an instant space-optimized snapshot

Choose Replication Tasks > Take Instant Snapshot Data Volumes of RVG > Instant Space-optimized Snapshots.

Select the RVG from the list.
The following screen displays:

To use a pre-existing cache object, select yes. Otherwise, select no. The Instant Space-optimized Snapshot screen displays.

Optionally, enter a prefix in the Prefix entry field. This prefix enables you to easily identify the snapshot name. If you do not specify a prefix, provides a default in the format
SNAP#-<
volume name>
.

If you selected yes to use a pre-existing cache object, enter the name of the cache object.
OR
If you selected no to using a pre-existing cache object, enter the cache size.

You can also enter an optional comment.

Press F3 until you return to the main menu.
Taking an instant plex-breakoff snapshot
To create instant plex-breakoff snapshots, perform the following tasks, as described in the respective section:

Choose Replication Tasks > Take Instant Snapshot Data Volumes of RVG > Instant Plex-breakoff Snapshots.

Select the RVG from the list.
The following screen displays:

Optionally, enter a prefix in the Prefix entry field. This prefix enables you to easily identify the snapshot name. If you do not specify a prefix, provides a default in the format
SNAP#-<
volume name>
.
Enter the Plex Prefix to specify a prefix for the plexes that will be used for creating the plex-breakoff snapshots.
Note
If you do not specify the Plex Prefix attribute when creating the plex-breakoff snapshots, a plex that is in the snapdone state gets selected, automatically.
You can also enter an optional comment.
